25th Magnette Day

It's now 25 years ago, that I had the idea to bring together some German Magnettes, as they were very very rare at that time and well underrepresented at MG events. So it started in 1996 with a BBQ in my garden. The three German Magnettes were framed by the Magnettes of Malcolm Eades and our current chairman Paul Batho, who did the trip just for a BBQ!

Yorkshire Dales weekend 7-8th August 2021

Despite heavy rain on Saturday we were able to stay reasonably dry at the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, starting with a cream tea served in style on board the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Directors carriage.

Shelsley Walsh 17-18 July 2021

Shelsley Walsh this year will remain in Magnetteers minds for two reasons: the heat and poor Magnette attendance with only 4 of our cars on display. However to look on the bright side we saw a perfect example of 'the marque of friendship'. All MGs were parked together which did not produce any problems and when Anthony arrived very early on Saturday morning and started to erect the register gazebo on his own, help was instantly on hand from MGCC members manning the MGB gazebo – thanks guys.

Somerset Tour 3-4 July

Somerset – the rural English county famous for its cheese, cider and cars. Cars? Well, it's a little known fact that when Mr Richard Stephens established Clevedon Motor Cars in Clevedon, Somerset, in 1897 he became arguably the first motor manufacturer in Britain. Then, nearly 90 years later John Haynes, who had made his fortune publishing the eponymous Workshop Manuals, opened the Haynes International Motor Museum in Sparkford to create what is now a collection of over 400 historic cars. So yes, Somerset truly a county with a great motoring tradition and it also offers some memorable touring routes

Crich Tramway Village 29th May 2021

Our first Register event since 2019 was at Crich Tramway Village near Matlock in Derbyshire. There were at least a dozen Magnettes, and several owners in other cars.

The visit to Crich Tramway Village on 29 May was our first event since 2019, following the easing of restrictions. There were 12 Magnettes, including unusually no less than four blue Varitones, and also Paul Batho's MGA. Most of us were able to park inside the museum on the main street, with cobbles, tram tracks and the reconstructed Red Lion providing a photogenic backdrop. Early cloud cleared to a glorious afternoon and we enjoyed riding the trams, looking round the static exhibits and of course chatting around the cars
