International Magnette Day 24-26 June 2022
Over the last weekend in June, 21 Magnettes and their drivers descended on Luxembourg for the 26th 'Magnette Days' weekend, hosted by Yves and Sonja Rommes in the village of Perlé.
It was a truly international event, with cars coming from Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the UK. David and Kerri Halliday came in their V8 as the Varitone was reluctant to start, while David and Jane Harrison's magnificent 1948 Rover 12 Tourer was a stylish addition.
European Magnette Days are always friendly, informal and laid-back occasions – that's their charm. Friday evening saw friends reuniting, many after three years of enforced separation, over a magnificent buffet prepared by the Rommes family. The bottomless beer barrel flowed freely!
By Saturday morning, Friday's torrential rain storms had cleared and the cars set off on a self-guided tour of the country. Luxembourg provides magnificent roads for touring, with some steep, challenging climbs to magnificent hilltop views, ancient castles and delightful villages and towns. Then it was back to Perlé for the traditional Saturday night barbeque, hosted once again by the Rommes family.
On Sunday we assembled for breakfast, then the 21 cars scattered all over Europe, heading home but keenly looking forward to meeting again for the 27th time in 2023.
