TOPIC: Heater problems

Heater problems 10 years 1 month ago #269

Hi all,
I've tried flushing with the water going in the pipe to the heater on the left hand side of the car looking from the front.
The flow was sluggish, with just some slightly dirty brown water coming out.
There was a very small drip inside the car (NOT ME!), and I suspect that one side of the heater had a build up of pressure inside.
I then reversed the flow, and the water flowed slightly better.
I then came to the conclusion that I may have to keep trying the flow one way, and then the other to see if I could clean the system.
However, when I reverted back again to how I had originally done the flow, the water would not flow at all, and the pressure on the system was such that it was difficult to get a good seal, even with a jubilee clip around the pipe where the water was going in, resulting in the engine bay being sprayed with water.
Any Ideas?. I'm not brilliant on the spannering, and am getting to old to grub around under the dashboard to take the heater matrix out.

Have any other Magneteers come across this problem, maybe I'm just going to have to put up with no heater.

Hi There all Magneteers,
My heater has never worked efficiently, in that very little heat comes out of it, the boost fan does work.
I presume that the heater Matrix/radiator inside the cabin is blocked up, and I have been told to try connecting mains water hoses to one of the 2 pipes connecting the water system from the radiator to the heater box. The question is what way round does the water flow normally. Does it flow through the pipe on the right hand (carburettor)side of the rocker box cover when viewed from the front of the car. In which case I will have to connect the hosepipe from the mains tap to the pipe on the left hand side of the engine to backflush it, or is it the other way round?
Your advice is much needed and will be highly appreciated,
John Barringer
