Shelsley Walsh 17-18 July 2021
Shelsley Walsh this year will remain in Magnetteers minds for two reasons: the heat and poor Magnette attendance with only 4 of our cars on display. However to look on the bright side we saw a perfect example of 'the marque of friendship'. All MGs were parked together which did not produce any problems and when Anthony arrived very early on Saturday morning and started to erect the register gazebo on his own, help was instantly on hand from MGCC members manning the MGB gazebo – thanks guys.
The day before the event the organisers sent an e-mail to everyone on their list saying that entry was by pre-booked tickets only. Numbers were strictly limited to 4000 people per day. The event was obviously popular with classic car lovers but strangely not with Magnette owners. The M.A.C. (Midland Auto Club) summed up the weekend by saying that Shelsley Walsh is known throughout the motoring world for its stunning location and unique atmosphere. Visitors were able to walk around the paddock and soak up the sights and sounds of a bygone era and were encouraged to dress to suit the era of their car. The Battle of Britain flight flew overhead while visitors enjoyed tea in the 1940's tearoom. The Concours by Classic & Sports Car Magazine in conjunction with Hagerty was won by a 1959 pre-production Morris Mini Minor supplied by BMC to John Bolster for a long term test. The best club stand was won by the Worcestershire Riley Register who displayed 25 pre-war Rileys built in Coventry between 1899 and 1940.
For Ian and Paula the memory they will take away was being passed by a convoy of Harley Davidson motor cyclists who each gave them a 'thumbs up', the last blowing a kiss as he passed.
