Lou Shorten Tribute, 6-7 October 2018

Following the traditional format, on the Saturday Magnette enthusiasts were invited to open house at John Shorten's in Lenwade, Despite the cold and damp weather it was well attended, with some new faces as well as regulars. Lou's daughter Jenny and organizers John & Cynthia provided a buffet lunch of sandwiches and cake, after which Mike Lafflin regaled us with an account of his many motoring and farming experiences, some of them Magnette-related but all entertaining !

The evening dinner at Wensum Valley Golf Hotel was followed by presentation of awards for the season. Not all winners were present, but Mac Pile received his special award from the committee for stepping in at short notice to organize the 2017 Wiltshire weekend, after the sad passing of Trevor Jones

Sunday dawned cold but much brighter, and by the time we gathered at the Bure Valley narrow-gauge railway it was reasonably warm. John and Cynthia had arranged a special tour of the workshops and a talk by the Managing Director, which gave a fascinating insight into the economics of running a steam railway. Most then enjoyed a scenic train ride from Aylsham to Wroxham and back, before departing for home.  In total at least 15 Magnettes and their owners attended, including 2 Farinas
