I have just been offered this car which is in a state of disrepair. It has been stripped of many parts many years ago, I have confirmed that this was before 1970 but cannot tell when, however the DVLA have a record of someone registering an MG Magnette with same registration (727APD) in 1982 and using till 1997, my chassis plate has been removed!! So read the number off the body stamping i think I've done it accurately but has been rusting for very long time. I need any information I can get to get this car back on the road, we all know how the DVLA are in cases like this! I suspect the other one is a ringer unfortunately!

Originally light grey over dark grey, repainted sage grey/green over dark green by 3rd owner in Tasmania circa 1970. Since then, has moved to New South Wales, Western Australia, & now South Australia where it takes part regularly in MGCCSA events. A very original car body and interior (other than colour change), and has probably only been around the clock once. Known as "Vera", to match "Varitone"! Its local South Australian registration no' is MGZB-58.

I bought it three years ago in boxes - two previous owners had disassembled it and done some body work and applied an incorrect Varitone paint scheme. I assembled enough to get it operational and rebuilt the brakes and converted it with the help of the Hints and Tips section to negative ground and an alternator. I have to build a complete interior for it and I want to add a Hi-Gear 5 speed kit. My son and I are having a lot of fun with it now.

Since I registered my Magnette, I have completed building the 3-Main 1800 with a Derrington pattern cross-flow head and instlled the Hi-Gear Ford T9 transmission with an MGB 3.91 differential and added disk brakes. Recently, I was able to attend MG2016 at Louisville, KY US and park my Magnette in a group of 14 other Mangettes

The car is a New Zealand-new model, first registered here in December 1957. It has spent all its life around Christchurch, Timaru and Dunedin in the South Island, but I have just driven it to my home in Auckland, a distance of nearly 700 miles covered in two days with no problems. The car is currently fitted with a 1622cc engine and flashing indicators, but otherwise seems fairly original and unmolested. It has done a genuine 27k miles from new. It was owned by a lady in Dorset most of its life and then went to Reading - that chap used it in Holland for a while before returning home - he sold it to his neighbour who in 1988 fitted 2 new floors and had the car resprayed/new brakes etc - his wife drove the car a few times and decided she didnt like it as the heater was not good enough ! So it was put in their garage and left there until my fiancee (Sara) bought the car for me. I have fallen in love with them both ! Gobby, Cornwall, UK

In the early 1970's this Magnette belonged to Bart Spoelstra, who was the owner of the MG Workshop in The Hague The picture was taken in 1974 during a meeting of the Dutch MG-clubs at the Zandvoort Circuit. The Dutch registrar Henk Kroese confirmed that the car is still running after a complete restoration in 1995. It's creme over light green  The car was assembled in Durban/South Africa (which might explain the sun visor!) and imported to the Netherlands in 1971 and later converted to LHD. It is said to be a '55 ZB what must be a mistake as ZB's were introduced as late as autumn 1956.

These upgrades include the fitment of a more powerful ZB engine; front disc brakes; Spax shock absorbers; halogen headlamps; indicators rather than trafficators; generator to alternator conversion and the fitment of a stainless steel exhaust.
It has also been fitted with a sophisticated Tracker anti-theft system with a lifetime subscription. So if it ever does get stolen, the police will always be able to find it via the magic of satellite tracking technology – whatever would Palmer have made of that!
