Maroon with biscuit interior and with fitted radio went to University Motors, London, where press launch party was held in the presence of Thornley, Palmer and other luminaries. This picture taken from Palmer's Autobiography (see books) which is titled "...Here am I speaking at the London launch of the Magnette". So I assume the car in front is #504. |

Chassis 537 was the first car built in 1954. It later became known as "Bumble"when in the hands of Judy Andreason competing in the Classic Saloon car series of races during the '70s. Originally painted black, then painted in the "Cream Cracker" colours of brown and cream. Shown here in race trim. The original doors without quarterlight had been removed and stored save. It is believed that this car is now in Japan. If you know more about the whereabouts, please contact us!! |

Under full nut and bolt restoration by Neil Golding. This car was in a very poor condition when I collected it from a lock up in Birmingham. I have brought it down to Devon where it is being striped down for panel repairs and bare metal repray. I am documenting it's restoration with photographs and hope to supply it to a classic car magazine, as I would imagine it would make for a nice feature. It was built between 8th -14th April 1954 and was despatched 20th April 1954. |

This car is an unrestored early version of the MG Magnette ZA. Since it has Chassis number 1251 it is exactly the 750th Magnette ever build! Of course it has the tin-top dashboard. I bought the car in Belgium and it is an original Belgium car originally delivered by “Romain Richard & Fils” in Namur on 3th of December 1954 (date of the first registration). According to the Hertitage certificate the Date of Build is 12-21 May 1954 and it has been despatched on 24 May 1954. The car has been in Belgium ever since until end of 2012 when I have imported it to the Netherlands were it got the Dutch license plate AR-64-17. Since it has been an original Belgium car it has of course Left Hand Drive and it has a kilometre speedometer. Although it is an unrestored car prior to the official Dutch registration the complete brake system and the front wheel suspension has been reconditioned. A new stainless steel exhaust has been fitted, the fuel hoses are renewed, same with the cooling hoses, the carburettors recalibrated and a master electrical switch (battery cut off) has been fitted. And at last rear seat belts has been fitted to accommodate two child seats. Since then we made some fabulous trips with our two small children on the back seat but sometimes they may play on the front seats (which the prever!). Olaf van Panhuys |

Two ZA Magnettes lay in the backyard of a Northern Suburb of Melbourne - its now Jan 2014.Each car's rear window seals had failed completely allowing the rear window to fall inside; probably many years ago. The owner now in hospital had left these Magnettes [ only the Early ZA tin top shown here] in the Backyard for over 30 years. Rust was very, very advanced. This ZA Magnette [ Chassis No KAE 24/2719] could not be saved due to its state, lack of time [property sold] and steep cluttered access. Paul Vermont retains the chassis plate for this lost Magnette

Purchased in 1956 in Armidale NSW Australia by my father Norman McGrath . The MG 457 plates are original NSW issue not personalised plates. The old man loved his Maggie, but being a country lad, he was into horses, so Maggie carried it's fair share of hay bales and saddles. Originally dark grey, Dad figured MGs should be red and got his mate to give it a (shabby) paint job in the late 60s. Apart from the colour change the car is in original condition with 67,300 miles. I've had it since 1990 and kept it garaged, dry and running. My sons are 19 & 17 and we've been working on the mechanics recently, it's great to have their Grandpa's car to tinker with. I still have the three original manuals, very helpful. We wont go concours on it as we want to keep lots of it's personality. The body is rust free, I think we'll go back to the original colour, new front seat leather and carpets, the headlining is in good condition and dash is still pretty good. Might put wires on it one day? |
