Sledmere 2003

The weekend really started on the Friday evening around the Barbie at the most excellent campsite or for some like myself and Gwen in the local pub, The Triton all part of the Sledmere Estate. It was a fantastic weekend and as you know the Magnettes were invited up to Yorkshire by Jill & Greg Thornton to join in the East Yorkshire Group MG Car Club annual get together, the sunshine was also laid on . Items included various displays, concours, P.O.O. Premier classes, Gymkhana ,auction, refreshments and to top it all a big band, The Frank Cleveland Orchestra (playing 1945 hits Glen Miller ,Artie Shaw, Ted Heath etc.) The sound was excellent and David Johnson and myself were in our element. The Register 2nd round of the concours was judged by David and myself and was won by Bill Porely 2nd John Richardson 3rd Greg Thornton. Lou and John Shorten and Peter Martin were there for the weekend and a good tome was had by all.
Roy Smalldrige, Chairman

The Saturday scenic run was 75 miles, running through the Yorkshire Wolds, across the Vale of Pickering, and into the North York Moors. Several Z types entered including 'Dalesman' Wilson, who borrowed mine (I took Jill's B, it was absolutely glorious weather). The highlight had to be the VERY steep ascent of the infamous 'Rosedale Chimney Bank', which is 1 in 3 in parts!  Everyone made it up, including a 1934 M type driven by Giles & Dennis Peacock. Lunch was in Thornton le Dale (pub lunch with Old Speckled Hen on draught), followed by a very enjoyable trip to the Motor Museum opposite. Jill didn't make the social run - she didn't recover from the  previous night's excesses in time!!
7 Z types attended in total, inc John Richardson's supercharged one.
Greg Thornton, Northern Rep.
